IT’S OFFICIAL. IT’S WINTER! IT’S MISERABLE!! While it’s our priority at Sustenance that our members should never be short of good healthy food, we also care about them keeping their fabulous good looks. And that never matters more than when the nights close in, the temperatures plummet and the winds are gales. We can all look great in the sun but it’s a lot harder now. The winter’s not kind to skin and nowhere more so than here by the sea. It may seem like a small thing but a part of feeling good about yourself is feeling you look good. That’s why we are so glad that every two weeks we are able to offer our members a range of the best beauty products around. They are generously donated, of the highest quality and only indicative of the kindness and respect our fabulous members deserve. We are massively grateful to The Coop Local Community Fund ❤️ firstly, for choosing us as the recipients of their fundraising from last October till now. The amount raised in our local community by Coop members and individual stores in Hastings and St Leonards will help cover our rent, storage and other essential core costs allowing us six months breathing space to secure longer term funding! THE MENU. It’s the first thing members see when they arrive. Everyone wants to know what’s going on in the kitchen and what deliciousness is going to be served up! “What’s on the menu today?” Each week the job of writing up the menu falls to someone different. Last week it was Lorraine. She does a bit of everything. She says, “I come every week. Just tell me what to do and I’ll do it. There’s big satisfaction just from knowing you’re helping other people” She’s brilliant. And she’s not alone. This is how SUSTENANCE is able to do the work it does for people experiencing food poverty in Hastings and St Leonard’s. Thank you! ❤️

Monday night saw the premiere of Jake Bishops brilliant film, Longer tables AND the official launch of iur charity, Sustenance at a full house at the wonderful Kino-Teatr in Saint Leonards. We didn’t need a red carpet. It was a fantastic evening and we feel overwhelmed by the level of support that was so evident in the room. It is that support that creates the energy that drives everything that we do to address food poverty Hastings and St Leonards. Without you, our supporters, we simply wouldn’t be able to do what we do. Your support and our new status will enable us to secure our future and guarantee the work we do. So Thank you! Madeleine - ‘Whilst volunteering, which I have done since it’s beginning, I have been encouraged to play a part in creating a joyful space that has made a really positive contribution to the local community in addressing both food poverty and social isolation. I have received relevant training and met some interesting and lovely people, both visitors and other volunteers. To see someone arrive on a Thursday, sometimes in a distressed state, and to be made welcome, be served a delicious lunch and leave with a bag full of vegetables, bakery etc., is truly rewarding for all concerned. We have a great team and any skills people bring are used and appreciated, because even washing up can be done well or badly.”
